It has been a sweet start for Xiaomi this year, as the company has just introduced one phone till now, which is the Xiaomi Redmi 3. The phone is an extremely competitive budget smartphone loaded with great specs and beautiful metal design. However, what we are really waiting for is the company’s next flagship, the Xiaomi Mi5.
The Mi5 has been involved in leaks and rumors since the last quarter of 2015, and we pretty much know everything about the phone except a few unconfirmed specs. Most of the specs have been confirmed by a new benchmark test result. So if you have held on to your wallet just so that you can grab the Xiaomi Mi5 when it releases, it’s better if you go through all the details once again just to refresh your memory of the next flagship killer.
Xiaomi Mi 5 Design
The Mi 5, as suggested by recently leaked pictures, will get a metal body, probably made out of some kind of aluminium alloy. The top and bottom parts are supposedly made out of metal-imitating-plastic so that the signal reception is not hindered. The speakers have been placed at the bottom of the phone with the USB Type-C port.
Xiaomi Mi5 Specifications
The Mi5 will be seen flaunting a 5.7-inch FullHD screen with a pixel density of 565ppi. The phone will be powered by a quad-core 2.1 GHz Snapdragon 820 processor, coupled with 3GB of RAM, Adreno 530 GPU, and 64GB of onboard storage. A latest rumor says that this might be a top-end variant of the Mi5, and that a cheaper variant might come with 32GB of internal storage.
The Xiaomi Mi5 will get a 16MP rear camera with dual-tone dual-LED flash, and a 13MP front selfie shooter. The LTE-enabled smartphone will get a nice 3,600mAh battery. The phone will run MIUI7 based on Android 5.1, though Android 6.0 Marshmallow is completely possible too.
Xiaomi Mi5 Features
Firstly, the Mi5 is sporting the latest and the best smartphone chipset in the world. The Snapdragon 820 SoC comes with Kryo cores for beastly performance and better power efficiency. The phone gets 2.5D curved glass on top, and will possibly get Gorilla Glass 4.

Then there will be a fingerprint scanner embedded into the Home button at the front, and we are sure the sensor will be a fast and flawless one. We are expecting a nice stereo speaker setup with Hi-Fi sound, but expecting too much isn’t good too. Will the Xiaomi Mi5 come with an iris scanner? We’re not sure, and we need to wait for some more leaks until we find out more.
Xiaomi Mi5 Price and Release Date
Though there have been no official leaks regarding the pricing of the Xiaomi Mi5, it is being said that the phone will be priced between $300 to $400 for different storage options. The phone will be launched on February 24th, which is confirmed by the company’s co-founder and Senior VP Liwan Jiang. More details about the launch event will be shared on coming Tuesday i.e. January 26th. Another recent leak of the retail box of the Mi5 suggests that the phone will be launched at Xiaomi’s official event at the MWC 2015.
So it’s just a matter of one month before the Xiaomi Mi5 will be standing in flesh and blood before us. Are you excited?
