Four months have passed since Google rolled out the Android 7.0 Nougat update to its Nexus handsets. Other manufacturers soon followed suit and began upgrading their smartphones as well. However, compared to the rests, Xiaomi has so far lagged far behind, understandably drawing flak from many increasingly impatient users.
Fortunately, for a large number of Xiaomi users, the wait is going to be over really soon. According to GizmoChina, Xiaomi’s MIUI operations manager has revealed that the beta testing of the software is currently underway. To the surprise of many, the first Xiaomi handsets to receive the Android Nougat update include the Mi Note, Mi Max, Mi 4c and Mi 4s.
As of today, there’s no word on other handsets including the Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, or the Mi Note 2. Even the massively popular Redmi Note 3 is not part of the list of the qualified devices yet.
Meanwhile, a recent post on the MIUI forum signals that the following handsets are next in line: Redmi 3, Redmi 3A, Redmi 3S, and Redmi 2 Prime.
Note that while the MIUI official revealed that the Android N update is coming for the aforementioned handsets, he refrained from divulging any further info regarding the timeline within which said devices are expected to receive the update.
On a related note, HTC has already started rolling out Android N update to the HTC One M9 and HTC 10 smartphones. Similarly, Motorola is also updating the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, and Moto G4 Plus handsets, while Sony announced the availability of the update for its Xperia, X, Xperia X Compact, and Xperia XZ smartphones.
