Samsung W2017 Android Flip Phone has been officially announced in clamshell form factor. It comes with Snapdragon 820 CPU, 4GB RAM, and Android Marshmallow OS. The high-end flip phone, termed as ‘Veyron’ will be released in the market as Samsung W2017. So far, the South Korean tech giant has not revealed any details on the price or availability. However, the Samsung W2017 will be initially launched in China.
The Samsung W2017 will be available in two color options – Black and Gold. Almost specifications of the new flip phone were leaked ahead of the launch. The announcement confirms that the flip phone is indeed a powerful device. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via a micro SD card. It runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system out of the box.
The Samsung W2017 features not one but two 4.2-inch touchscreens with full HD (1080p) resolution. Both screens are on the top section of the phone. The bottom half is dedicated to a feature-phone style keyboard. It sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and 4K video recording. There is also a 5-megapixel front camera on board. The dual-SIM phone comes with 4G LTE connectivity.
However, the clam-shell form factor has affected one aspect of the new device. The metal body flip phone is backed by a smaller 2,300 mAh battery. Although, it comes with fast charging capability. The new handset also supports wireless charging and mobile payments via Samsung Pay.
It’s unclear whether the new flip phone will be launched alongside previous high-end flip phones in India. The new flip phone seems like a great choice for users who love the clam-shell form factor but need modern specs and features.
