To ensure hassle-free activation process, it’s good to visit nearest Jio SIM outlet with Aadhar card and 2 passport size photos. The first question that comes to mind is about 4G compatibility. There’s absolutely no point in buying a 4G SIM when your phone doesn’t support 4G. This brings us to FAQ1.

To check if your phone is VoLTE compatible, follow these steps-

  • Open dialer and enter: *#*#4636#*#* (this doesn’t work on few models of Samsung phones).
  • Tap on “Phone Information“.
  • Scroll Down. If you see “TURN OFF VoLTE PROVISIONED FLAG”, it means your phone supports VoLTE !! (Do not click on this option, though, just observe if you can see this option and press back button to exit).

You now have a SIM as well as 4G compatible phone. The next question that arises is how long it takes for the SIM to get activated, which brings us to FAQ2.

FAQ 2: When will by SIM get activated?

SIM activation should not take more than 5mins if you follow the steps given above. In some cases, the activation may get delayed. Fixes for Common Issues Encountered with Jio 4G SIM

[FIX] Reliance Jio Not Activated

There could be cases where activation is taking too long. In such cases we suggest you to call 1977(toll-free) to activate SIM. Before you call 1977, you should use JioJoin app for activation. If the call to 1977 fails, read on to find out more about JioJoin and how you can reach 1977.

[FIX] Tele-verification Call Fails to Connect

This can get really frustrating. You try to call 1977 for activation issues but simply cannot connect. Follow these steps to fix this problem –

  1. Download and install JioJoin App from Play Store
  2. After installing the app, when you open it you should see a popup which says – “Do you want to use JioJoin as text messaging app?”
  3. Click on Yes and call 1977.

[FIX] 1977 Not Working

If you are unable to dial 1977, try these steps to fix the problem –

  1. Switch off device
  2. Remove and Insert Jio SIM in the primary slot.
  3. Switch on Device
  4. Enable mobile data and open JioJoin App
  5. Use the dialer in the app to call 1977

For the call to be placed from the app, you should have 4G data working.

[FIX] My Network Unavailable on Jio SIM

If you find that the network bars missing when you switch on the device, follow these steps to fix the issue –

  1. Ensure that the SIM is in the primary slot.
  2. Head to Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names.
  3. Choose Jio 4G.
  4. Make sure you have the following settings. If not, you can manually edit them –
    • APN: jionet
    • APN Type: Default
    • Proxy: Not set
    • Port: Not set
    • Username: Not set
    • Password: Not set

You should be able to receive network signals now.

Sometimes, when you try to make a call, all you see is the annoying ‘not registered on network’ message. To fix this problem, all you need to do is remove and insert SIM again.

Follow these steps to fix this problem –

  1. Switch off your device.
  2. Remove and insert SIM in the primary slot.
  3. Restart your device
  4. Choose 4G LTE Network for SIM Slot 1 (primary slot) in Settings.

The fix for this issue is hardware independent – as long as you have a 4G compatible phone you just need to wait for the software upgrade that supports VoLTE.
