Overwatch is no stranger to references, but most of these are to other Blizzard properties. We’ve learned, however, that one of the non-Blizzard references in the game is for Big Hero 6, Disney’s recent animated film. At one point in the film, the movie’s star robot Baymax makes a funny little wave. It seems that Zenyatta, another robot himself, makes the exact same emote if you perform the “Hello” emote in the game. Have a look at the video below, and you’ll see the resemblance right away.
As the International Business Times notes, there’s more than a passing similarity between the worlds of Overwatch and Big Hero 6. They both have an international air to their cartoony worlds, and they seem to be set at some point in the future, but not so far from present day as to be alienating. And no, sadly, Baymax will never be a hero in Overwatch. It’s a sad reality we live in.
Overwatch is now available for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. It was released on May 24th, and has met considerable success, both critically and commercially. Developer Blizzard Entertainment is constantly fixing the balance and adding features to the game, such as a competitive mode. Eventually, we’ll see new characters and maps added to the game as well.
