OnePlus had entered the smartphone market with the OnePlus One, which was marketed as the “flagship killer” smartphone. The tag was given to the device because it came with flagship specs at one-third the price of flagships from major manufacturers like HTC, Samsung, etc.

Fast forward to now, the company has come a long way since its first smartphone and has launched its third flagship today, the OnePlus 3. This phone carries humongous specs at a a very affordable rate just like its predecessors. However, being such an irresistible phone in terms of features and pricing, it directly competes against the budget king Xiaomi.

The Xiaomi Mi5 is the latest flagship from the Chinese manufacturer and is the direct competitor to the OnePlus 3. So which device will emerge as the flagship killer between the Xiaomi Mi5 vs. OnePlus 3? Let’s do a quick specs comparison.

OnePlus 3 vs. Xiaomi Mi5 Specs Comparison

Display and Battery: The OnePlus 3 comes with a 5.5-inches Full HD AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass 4 on top. The Xiaomi Mi5 features a 5.15-inches Full HD IPS LCD screen with the same GG4 protection over it. As for the battery, both the phones get 3000mAh batteries.

Processor and Memory: Both the OnePlus 3 and the Xiaomi Mi5 get Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor that’s used in almost all the flagships this year. The OnePlus 3 gets a whopping 6GB RAM with 64GB of internal storage without any microSD slot. The Xiaomi Mi5 offers 3GB RAM with 32/64GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage.

Camera: The OnePlus 3 offers a 16MP rear camera with RAW support, PDAF, OIS, EIS, 4K video recording, and dual tone LED flash. It gets an 8MP front camera with fixed focus and EIS. The Xiaomi Mi5 gets a 16MP rear camera with PDAF, 4-axis OIS, and dual-tone dual LED flash. It comes with a 4MP UltraPixel front camera for selfies.

Extras: The Xiaomi Mi5 and OnePlus 3 come with NFC, fingerprint sensors, and Android Marshmallow.

That was the part where we compared the Xiaomi Mi5 vs. OnePlus 3. However, as most of you already known, Xiaomi is working on the Xiaomi Mi5s that will be released later this year. The Mi5s will come with up to 6GB RAM, pressure-sensitive Force Touch display, and more. The improvement over the Mi5 will be significant, which is why you may want to wait a few more months.

Price and Verdict

The Xiaomi Mi5 pricing starts at $372 (INR 24,999), while the OnePlus 3 price has been announced officially as $399 (INR 26,818). If we go by the specs, the OnePlus 3 is the better choice any day and you will only have to pay a small difference over the Mi5. And now that the OnePlus 3 can be bought online without invites, you should not miss the phone at all. But if you seriously want a Xiaomi Mi5 and can wait for a few more months, you could get the upgraded Xiaomi Mi 5s or the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 that will be even better.
