Mojang is best known for their smash hit, Markus ‘Notch’ Persson’s Minecraft, but now they’ve come up with another project to add to their rather limited portfolio. It’s called ‘Crown and Council’, and it’s a ‘fast-paced strategy game about conquering land and obliterating rival monarchs’. It involves earning gold, funding universities, building forts and of course, subduing territory with your army.

Crown and Council

In the game, there can only be one ruler, so the key to victory is to outmuscle your foes. Fairly simple to play, as Mojang puts it, but as with any quality strategy game, it requires quite a bit of decision-making. Sounds like a very budget Civilization to me, but then, that’s the extent of my strategy games expertise anyway.

The game was made by a single member of Mojang, named Henrik Pettersson (which keeps with tradition, seeing as Minecraft was originally made by a single member as well, Notch). The game is completely free, which is surprising, actually, but I guess Mojang isn’t hurting for money just yet. You can download it here off of Steam. It only takes 300 megabytes of space, so really, what do you have to lose?
