It is believed that Microsoft Corporation will release a new version of the highly reputable Surface Pro line of devices before the end of the year. However, the Redmond-based tech company has not confirmed the rumors. The speculation is based on the fact that the Surface Pro 4 was released a year ago. Microsoft seems to be delaying the release of the Surface Pro 5. But considering the timing of the upcoming fall event, speculators are positive the device will be unveiled.
As much as there enough reasons to believe the Surface Pro 5 may be released this year, there are enough reasons to believe otherwise. Tech enthusiasts may have to wait until early 2017 for the release of the device. According to a Yibada report, the device is supposed to run the yet-to-be released Windows 10 Redstone 2. Earlier in the year, Microsoft suggested that the Redstone 2 will be launched during the Spring of 2017, meaning that the Surface Pro 5 will have to wait until the release of the new OS.
ZDNet, on the other hand, confirmed that Microsoft Corporation is planning a huge surprise for tech enthusiasts. ZDNet seems to be positive that the upcoming fall event will see Microsoft unveil a new Surface device. However, the report did not confirm whether the device will be the Surface Pro 5, the Surface Book 2 or the highly anticipated Surface Phone.
But there is another possible cause of the delay in the release of the Surface Pro 5. It is speculated that the device will be among the first to use the latest Intel Processor, Intel Kaby Lake. The next generation chipset is expected to be more powerful than the already powerful Intel Skylake. Intel Kaby Lake was officially announced at the 2016 Computex. Nonetheless, Intel suggests that it will officially release the chipset in the late months of 2016 meaning the Surface Pro 5 may have to wait till early 2017.
Until Microsoft makes an official statement, all these will remain speculations. Most are positive that the upcoming Microsoft event will clear the air. It should be noted that Surface Pro 4 is on a discounted sale. The sale can be interpreted to mean that Microsoft is preparing a huge unveiling for its successor, the Surface Pro 5.
