There’s Apple, then Samsung, and then it’s Huawei out of nowhere! Yes, however strange it may sound to people who thought Huawei was just another Chinese company, Huawei is in fact the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The company keeps churning out new phones every month or every quarter and sells in millions.
The Honor arm of Huawei is meant for mid-ranged priced smartphones that are high on features. The Huawei Honor 5X and the Honor 7 are two of the best Honor phones we have in the market currently. But which one is the better if you had to choose one? Let’s see.
Looks, Display, Battery

When talking about design, the Honor 5X and the Honor 7 seem to share the same design cues. They both get metal bodies with the same brushed metal effect and the placement of the fingerprint sensor and the camera is the same apart from a small shift in the position of the LED flash and the Honor logo. In short, the phones look premium.
The Honor 5X gets a 5.5-inch FullHD screen with 401ppi, while the Honor 7 gets the same screen but with 424ppi and Gorilla Glass 3. As for the battery, the 5X gets a 3,000mAh juicer, while the Honor 7 sports a 3,100mAh pack.

CPU, UI, and Storage
The Honor 7 flaunts an octa-core Kirin 935 processor clocked at a maximum of 2.2GHz, while the Honor 5X makes do with an octa-core Snapdragon 615 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz.
In terms of memory, the 5X gets 16GB internal storage and the option of 2GB or 3GB RAM. Meanwhile, the Honor 7 gets 3GB of RAM with the option to choose between 16GB, 32GB (Enhanced Edition), and 64GB of onboard storage.
The Honor 5X runs on Android 5.1.1-based EMUI 3.1, while the Honor 7 runs on Android 5.0 and is upgradable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow (the Enhanced Edition comes with Marshmallow).
Camera and Other Features
This is where the Honor 7 really strikes the Honor 5X hard. The Honor 7 flaunts a great 20MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 27mm wide lens, PDAF, and a dual-tone dual-LED flash. It also gets an 8MP front camera with f/2.4 aperture, LED flash, and 26mm wide lens.
On the other hand, the Honor 5X sports a normal camera setup with a good 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 28mm lens, and LED flash. There’s a 5MP front camera.
Among other features, both the phones get fingerprint sensors and 4G LTE connectivity.
Price and Verdict
The Honor 5X costs $200 roughly while the Honor 7 asks for around $500. So choose the one that fits your budget. While the Honor 7 is a great phone, the Honor 5X is no slouch either and performs great. Take your pick.
