Disgraced Sunderland winger Adam Johnson will be removed from FIFA 16 “as soon as possible” according to EA Sports. Johnson was convicted this week of sexual activity with a 15 year old girl. Although he’s yet to be sentenced, he may face up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Adam Johnson has already been removed from the Active Rosters of both England and Sunderland squads, but is still playable in other areas of the game. EA Sports has made it clear that they are working to remove him from other modes “as soon as possible”.
A number of fans and childhood abuse charities have called for the removal of Adam Johnson from the game, particularly in light of the game’s young playerbase.
Gabrielle Shaw, CEO of National Association for People Abused in Childhood stated that the children who play FIFA 16 may have previously looked up to Johnson, making it a responsibility for EA Sports to remove him.
