Facebook Messenger Testing Snapchat Stories Style Feature

Facebook has been adding new features to its Messenger app quite regularly. While it may not be the lightest app out there, it is surely trying to bring all kinds of features to Facebook users. Now, the Facebook Messenger is trying out new features similar to Snapchat Stories and Instagram Stories.

The new feature for Facebook Messenger is being dubbed as Messenger Day. The new feature allows you to upload photos and videos with filters and doodle on them. It also allows you to create a slideshow of these photos and videos which disappear in 24 hours.

The Messenger Day feeds are displayed on top of the Messenger home screen. You can see your feed first followed by your friends. Just like Snapchat, you can respond to an individual photo or video where the conversation will be directed to Messenger. The new app comes with the ability to draw or add text to images. It uses graphic filters as suggestions for what to share. You can use stickers, which are categorized into ‘I’m feeling,’ ‘Who’s up for?’ and ‘I’m doing,’. It offers colorful filters such as ‘so blue,’ ‘road trip’ and so on.

The Messenger Day is currently being tested by the social media giant, only in Poland. The social media giant tried to acquire Snapchat for $3 billion in 2013 but failed. Facebook might be using MSQRD for Messenger Day. It had acquired the video filter app in March this year.

We know that people come to Messenger to share everyday moments with friends and family. In Poland we are running a small test of new ways for people to share those updates visually. We have nothing more to announce at this time. – A Messenger spokesperson said in an email to Tech Crunch.

The Facebook Messenger app is already part of the everyday usage of many people. The Stories format will be a great addition to the app. It allows you to share random stuff, which many might  not share on Facebook. The Stories slideshow format has been very successful. Even Instagram launched its own version of Snapchat Stories.
