Coolpad made available its first ever flagship smartphone in India back in May 2016 for Rs 24,999. It was a rare occasion when the company took a slight detour from its tried-and-tested approach of wooing the Indian market with budget pricing.
As expected earlier, the flagship didn’t lead to much friction as its more affordable siblings have typically done over time. However, the company seems to have finally reached the conclusion that it’s time the price of the Coolpad Max was slashed to make it a more worthy competitor to devices such as the OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi Mi 5.
Coolpad Max was originally launched in India via Amazon at Rs 24,999. But after the newly announced massive price cut of Rs 11,000, the device will be available to Indian consumers at just Rs 13,999.
The offer is valid for both gold and rose gold editions of the smartphone.
Coolpad Max sports a 5.5-in Full HD 2.4D curved display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection, a 13MP primary camera, a 5MP front snapper for selfies and video calling, 2800 mAh battery, fingerprint sensor, 64GB native storage (expandable using microSD card), 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 617 CPU, and 4GB RAM.
The timing of the price cut is also significant considering that the festive season is closing in and people are buckling up to go on a shopping spree in the coming few weeks.
This also paves the way for the launch of the company’s new flagship in India. Scheduled to arrive on September 23, the details regarding the new Coolpad flagship is still rather sketchy. So far, the company has carefully avoided revealing anything about the forthcoming device besides a few teasers.
